ATI Display Driver – How to Remove the Old and Outdated ones

An ATI display driver is basically a graphic software driver that needs to be installed in your PC to run the ATI Radeon video cards. Without these drivers, you will not be able to visualize graphical representations and images, be it movies or games.

A graphic card needs to be updated regularly to ensure and peak the performance of your system. But before installing the new driver, you must completely remove the old ATI display driver files or the system could get confused and try to read both the old and new files causing complete havoc.

The first step is to click on the ‘Start’ menu and then select ‘Add/Remove Programs’ from the Control panel. A list of all the available programs and applications will be displayed from which you can select the outdated ATI display driver and catalyst control. Next, click the option ‘Remove programs’ to remove these old files. This process only gets completed after you restart the system and it is best to do so in the safe mode by using the F8 button multiple times.

In case, you are installing a new graphic card, then do so while the system is still off. The new corresponding ATI display driver can be installed after the system has been turned on again. Your PC may throw up a message ‘found new hardware’ that can be ignored or skipped while starting up again; continue to install the new files of the updated driver.

An important point to remember is to always remove the old driver files only after you have obtained the new version. The system will refuse to work properly if it is not equipped with the proper ATI display driver. Enhance the performance of your PC by updating all the old drivers today itself.
